Alby Go: The New Mobile App for Self-Custodial Lightning Payments

Alby Go, the latest offering from Alby, is a mobile application that gives users the ability to conduct self-custodial payments through their Lightning node on both iOS and Android devices. Users can easily connect Alby Go with Lightning nodes and wallets such as Alby Hub, Umbrel, Start9, LifPay, and CoinOS to enable self-custodial Lightning payments. The app seamlessly integrates with Alby Hub, an open-source wallet that provides easy access to Lightning nodes from multiple devices, as well as with Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC)-enabled Lightning wallets.

In a statement, Alby co-founder Alby Michael Bumann shared, β€œAlby Go represents our commitment to making bitcoin accessible to all, now allowing users to carry it in their pockets. Through the use of the NWC messaging protocol, we ensure smooth utilization of multiple nodes and wallets within a lightweight app.”

Key features of Alby Go include a contact list for storing Lightning addresses of frequent contacts, currency conversion capabilities, and dark/light theme options. The app is currently in version 1.5, with the Alby team encouraging user feedback through their website and welcoming contributions to the open-source code available on GitHub.
